I had 100% intended to post this last week, but my wee one was struck down with food poisoning or some kind of extreme food allergy on his actual birthday, which made me cry actual tears for him. It was pretty extreme and we weren’t far off from taking him to the ER when he finally turned a corner. He’s feeling much better and we had a rocking party to make up for it, but it kind of threw our whole week off understandably! The glamorous life of a mama, y’all. Family photographer is just one of my many, many hats.
My little man is now 4 years old.
I wish I had something wildly elegant to say that maybe he could stumble upon in 20 years or something but honestly I’m too confounded by how quickly its all rushing by to even begin to form rational thought.
I remember the tiny baby in my arms. Who was actually not so tiny, in retrospect, because 10 lb babies are the King Kongs of the nursery.
And I’m so fascinated by this little person I’m with every day. Getting to know him is one of my favorite things. He is terrifyingly smart (as in, taught himself to read around 6 months ago and can sit down with a book and tell you 90% of the words on his own), but he’s also silly and sensitive and gentle and an 80 year old man smushed into a supersized 4 year old body.
Around Christmastime, he began to figure out the concept of birthdays. Birthdays = cake. And you get to pick what kind of cake you want! What?! So for 6 months I’ve been hearing nonstop about a Transformers cake. He’s been quite consistent. He’s committed to the Transformers theme, so it was easy when it came time to plan for his party.
Other boymoms may know of Transformers:Rescue Bots where there is a team of Transformers who are all emergency rescue vehicles and they assist in emergencies around their town. E’s favorite is the fire truck, Heatwave. Heatwave is the leader, and he is also red, and a little bit surly, so he’s a clear favorite for my little guy. A good friend of ours happens to be a captain with Beaumont Fire & Rescue, and apparently gives several tours a week. So really – was there any other choice for my little dude’s 4 year old photos??
It should come as no surprise that these are heavily documentary style. And they make my heart so happy.
